Varsity Golf at the GCL Championships
Sunday, Day 1 of the GCL Tournament, brought seasonable temperatures and windy conditions at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro. On the course that will play host to this year's OSHAA District Tournament, the Lancers battled the course and the conditions throughout the day. The highlight of Day 1 belongs to Freshman Colin Bobowski who posted back-to-back twos. On the 140-yard par 3 12th, Colin stuck his tee shot to 12 feet and made the putt for birdie. Then, on the short par 4 14th, his tee shot found the left side of the fairway at a good angle into the green. The 135-yard approach shot tracked from the moment it left his club and dropped in for an eagle 2. Colin finished the round at 9-over heading into Day 2. The low Lancer was Senior Gabe Logan who strung together ten straight pars to finish his round and post a 2-over par 73 that left him third on the leaderboard.
In the final round on Monday, the conditions were a bit cooler and the wind had picked up a touch. Senior Andrew Bobowski posted a pair of 82s for La Salle and finished second among the Lancers. The big mover on Day 2 was Junior Nate Schmid who improved on his first round 92 to post a respectable 83. Once again, Gabe Logan was low Lancer making four birdies on Monday to shoot a 4-over par 75 and finish tied second for the tournament one stroke back.
Over the course of the 72-hole GCL Season, including this past weekend and the four GCL quad matches, Gabe posted a total score of 296 (+11) placing him third among all golfers and earning him 1st Team All-GCL for the third year in a row.
